Potato roses are a sweet way to show someone (or yourself) that you care, to demonstrate your artistic prowess, or to just have a little fun with your food.
Peel and cut potatoes into thin slices with a knife or mandoline. Place slices in a large bowl with water to soak for 15 minutes.
Brush muffin tin with butter.
Melt butter. Add garlic, salt, black pepper, and cayenne pepper. Stir to combine.
Pat potato slices dry with paper towels. Add the butter to the potatoes and mix to coat well.
Arrange the slices in overlapping layers in the muffin tin. Roll several slices together into a tight coil and place in the center.
Bake at 400ºF until the edges are golden-brown and crispy, and the centers are tender, 30-35 minutes.
