Watch These Astronauts Attempt to Make Pizza in Space

There are almost as many ways to make pizza as there are to cook eggs. You can make pizza in the oven, on the grill, on the stovetop, in a muffin tin, on waffle fries, baked in a spaghetti squash, or served Chicago deep-dish style! But what if your home, for the time being, was a space station? Is pizza in space even possible? Apparently so!

What started out as a request from an Italian astronaut aboard the space station has turned into this fun video that leaves me grateful for my oven.

Italian astronaut Paolo Nespoli made a pizza request and Houston obliged by sending pizza ingredients to space! (Can you imagine the delivery bill? Woof!) Each pizza is made with a pre-baked crust, sauce, what I’m calling “astronaut cheese” (as shredded cheese in zero gravity is sure to be a complete disaster), and large pepperoni slices. It might not be your pie of choice, but it looks far more like a traditional pie than their Thanksgiving dinner did a few weeks back.

The condiment bottles stay put with a little help from velcro so they only have one floating item at a time!

Maybe next time the crew will just order in.

“Yes, hello, Pizza Hut? I’d like to place an order for delivery.”

“I’d like 6 supreme pizzas and an order of cheesy bread.”

“Address? International Space Station. We’ll leave the light on for the delivery guy!”

But seriously, as we all long for larger kitchens, I’m now officially grateful for any amount of counter space I have and the gravity that keeps my ingredients in place.
